War in Heaven
There are more than one perspective in life. Two sides of the same coin, darkness that comes with the light. We fight our angels and demons everyday. Sometimes we rise like the angels in heaven, while other times, we fall like the devils. Driven by personal and professional experience during the pandemic, the team at Temma Studio created a deck that highlights the contrast between good vs evil, the need of shifting perspective and seeing the good that comes with the bad, to be launched at Kickstarter.

Gehenna is taken from the Hebrew Bible that is said to be a place where the wicked are headed to. It is not the same as Hell as it is said to be more of a waiting room or a purgatory for those to atone and think of their sins, conveying that even if demons fall to hell, there is always opportunities for atonement. The sigil, just like Lux Bellator’s, is a remake of the demonic summoning circle, with each of the four card suits added into it. The symbols of snakes are placed into the card backs, representing the demon in the garden of eden who temps Adam and Eve. The back of the card includes gold foil finish, similar to the tuck. Graphic elements on the tuck used elevated UV spot finish, adding to its exclusivity. It is printed on black-washed textured paper. A more complex tuck than its light counterpart, the Gehenna tucks additionally features fluorescent ink which can glow in dark, on the form of its front sigil and the snakes.

Mephistopheles from Goethe’s Faust was chosen as the Joker due to his nature as a trickster that roams outside of the demon’s world. Each of the deck series has two versions of Joker; one in full color and the other one in monochromatic cream color. The aces are inspired from the shape of christian cross representing divinity, with a snake as the representation of the devil entangled on it. Each aces are shaped similar to the card suits.

The coin features the design from the sigils seen on the card back; one side features the angel summoning sigil and the other side the devil summoning sigil. A booklet is created in order to give further information on the source materials.
The project was fully funded only a little after 24 hours after it is launched. We introduce each card suits every week after the launch, starting with the diamond suits. The campaign lasted for 40 days. Our efforts afterwards focuses on managing the printing, fulfillment, funds allocation, as well as responding to backers messages.

We decided to create a deck inspired by the War in Heaven from the Book of Revelations. Each suite matches a specific angel with a corresponding demon according to their ranks in the hierarchy. The angelic tier follows the original Christian Angelology. The demonic tier is created based on each of the demon’s power level, taken from various sources such as Dante’s Inferno, Ars Goethia, and Lantern of Light, as there are no actual classification of Hell/demon hierarchy.
Lux Bellator is latin for ‘Light Warrior’, contrasting to the fact that Lucifer, a demon, was once a ‘Light Warrior’. One can be evil by nature or nurture and in this case even Angels who are born of pure light can fall. The sigil is a remake of the angelic summoning circle, with each of the four card suits added into it. The symbols of wings are placed into the card backs, complimenting the sigils. The numbered seal are placed on the bottom part of each tuck box to emphasize on the exclusivity as a collector’s item, showing the series creator and manufacturer name. The back of the card includes gold foil finish, similar to the tuck. Elements on the tuck was embossed, and printed on off-white textured paper.
